Nursing Services bp_at_home

Our two nurses work alongside the doctors during most surgeries. They see patients by appointment and are experienced in a wide range of health topics. They can deal with cervical smears, childhood immunisations, holiday injections, ECGs, lung function tests. They will also help patients with blood pressure, lifestyle advice including stopping smoking, weight loss, HRT & menopause advice, contraception, health checks, asthma and diabetes.

NHS Health Checks

If you are aged between 40-74, we offer a comprehensive health check.  During the check our Health Care Assistant with discuss your general health, medications you are taking and signpost you to other support or health services you may benefit from.

Over 75's Health Checks

Our practice is proud to offer a Health Assessment to all patients over the age of 75.  We recommend this assessment to help provide a comprehensive picture of your health, to help prevent future problems and enjoy better health for longer.

Family Planning

We offer advice on all types of contraception and also fit caps and coils. Urgent appointments are always available for emergency contraception. The “morning after” pill can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. It is most effective if taken within the first 24 hours however. Some pharmacists can now provide this over the counter.

Cervical Smears

Our policy is to offer routine cervical smears according to National Screening Protocols. Patients will receive an invitation from the Health authority to book an appointment with the practice nurse when a smear is due. All smear results are sent by the screening service to the patient. Leaflets about this test are available at the surgery.

Child Health

We  have a local childrens centre which provides support and services to families with young children.

Maternity Care pregnant8

Our midwife runs an antenatal clinic on Wednesday afternoons and is happy to discuss all aspects of antenatal care including classes, scans, hospital tours, choices in labour, postnatal care and feeding. If you are pregnant you will need the midwife who will arrange referral to your choice of hospital. The midwife can be contacted via the surgery reception or via the QE2 hospital switchboard on 01707 328111.

Blood/Urine Tests

Blood samples, requested by the practice, can be taken by our visiting phlebotomist who runs a clinic by appointment Monday - Friday mornings. Urine and other samples should be handed in to the receptionists before 2:30 pm. Please make sure that every specimen is clearly labelled with your name, date and date of birth and that the container is tightly closed. Most results are available within 2 to 4 working days. Some tests such as X-rays can take a little longer.

Travel Advice

This service is currently suspended due to Covid 19

The practice nurses run the travel advice and vaccination service. Please enquire in good time, preferably 6 - 8 weeks before travel abroad to ensure you can receive up to date advice and full protection. A foreign travel form needs to be completed for each person travelling at least 1 week prior to the appointment with the practice nurse. More information is available on the above tab. Please note we do not offer Yellow Fever vaccinations.
